Insider: Four-Star Prospect Sean Price Signs with USF
The USF Bulls’ most sought after prospect, Sean Price from North Marion High School in Citra, made it official this morning that he would be signing a letter of intent to play at USF in 2012.
The newest Bull is the 12th ranked TE in the country, making this an impressive signing for USF. Price is considered to be one of the most impressive recruits to commit to USF.
According to Rivals.com, Price is the country’s No. 158 prospect. The Bulls have only had two signees that had a higher ranking. Terrence Mitchell (Hillsborough High) was ranked No. 89 in the class of 2010 and Ryne Giddens (Armwood High) was ranked No. 61 in 2009.
In Price’s senior season at North Marion, he led the team with 25 catches and 530 receiving yards. He also averaged more than 44 yards per game as a senior.
Price also brings speed to the Bulls. He ran a 4.89 in the 40 yard dash in Nike’s SPARQ combine. The tight-end is versatile as well and even had 3.5 sacks in his senior season.
“When I look at Sean Price I see a young tight-end that has the capability to really do it all,” Holtz said. ”He primarily is a receiving tight-end right now. He’s athletic and he’s got great hands.”
Although the Bulls already have upperclassmen at the position, Holtz said Price could make an immediate impact in the upcoming season.
“I think he’s bringing a real asset to this team and I think he has an opportunity to make an impact and that’s going to be hard to do because of the upperclassmen we have at that position. But I say that as a real testament to Price and the type of football player he is.”
A lot schools did their best to lure the four-star prospect away from playing for the Bulls, including some elite programs such as Michigan, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Miami, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Georgia, and even the 2012 National Champion, Alabama.
Price, a 6-foot-4, 230 pound tight-end verbally committed to USF in the summer after taking a campus visit to Oklahoma.
Why did Price want to a play for a program that went 5-7 last season?
According to Holtz, Price wanted to play for a school where he can be instrumental in building up a program.
“I commend Sean because there are a lot of people out that are there saying “you know what, you’ll never win big there and you’ll never accomplish some of the things that we’ve done” but I commend Sean for being strong enough to say “I wanna go some place and build something.”
